The commitment
All 41 articles in this catalogue were drawn by us. Every one is an original design owned by Mazo ApS.
What we do not sell
- No reproductions of protected designs.
- No reissue of anyone else’s work.
- No tribute to, or homage to, an existing lamp.
- Nothing described as inspired by a named designer.
- No use of a designer’s name, a famous model name, or the phrase Danish classic anywhere on this site.
Why this is not just a marketing position
Furniture and lighting designs are protected in the EU by registered and unregistered design rights, and in Denmark by copyright in works of applied art. Copyright in applied art runs for the life of the author plus 70 years. In practice a great deal of what is casually sold as a “classic reproduction” is still inside that protection, and the seller is relying on nobody testing it.
We are not interested in a business whose main risk is a letter from someone else’s lawyers, and we are not interested in selling you something that might have to be recalled. The straightforward version — draw your own — has none of those problems.
How it is enforced before an article is listed
A statement of intent that nobody checks is worth nothing, so this is built into the process rather than into a promise:
- An originality confirmation is mandatory. No article can be saved into the catalogue without an explicit confirmation that it is an in-house original and not a reproduction, tribute or interpretation of an existing design. There is no way to skip it and no default value.
- A vocabulary check runs at build time. A list of prohibited phrases — including the ones in the box above — is held in the source. If any of them appears anywhere in the site, the build fails and nothing is deployed. It is the same mechanism that keeps an uncertified fitting off the storefront.
- Photography is generated from our own specifications. Every product photograph on this site is made to a written description of our own design. None of it is taken from a supplier catalogue, and none of it depicts a recognisable existing lamp.
What it costs us
It would be commercially easier not to do this, and it is worth being honest about what the position rules out:
- We cannot sell the shapes people already recognise, and recognition sells lighting more than almost any other factor.
- We cannot borrow the authority of a famous name, so every article has to justify itself on what it does — which is why this site publishes lumens, kelvin, colour rendering and beam angle instead of a story about a mid-century atelier.
- Original tooling costs more than copying tooling that already exists, and some of that is in the price.
We think that trade is worth making. It is also the reason the rest of this site looks the way it does: if you are not selling a silhouette, you had better be able to state what the thing actually produces.

Our own rights
The designs, the photography, the text and the layout of this site belong to Mazo ApS. The same argument that keeps us from copying other people applies in the other direction, and we take it as seriously.
If you think we have got something wrong
If you believe any article on this site infringes a design right, a copyright or a trade mark you hold or represent, write to support@mazodesign.shop with the article, the right you are asserting and its registration or evidence of subsistence.
We will answer within 1 business day, and we will look at it properly. Where a claim has substance we will withdraw the article from sale while it is examined rather than argue first and act later. That is not an admission of anything — it is what a company that meant this page would do.
See the catalogue — every article, with its figures and its provenance stated on the page.
